The Apartment

Station House Opera

2015

A two-storey structure, one apartment above another, the audience looks in from all sides. Projected upon the walls of the first floor apartment, nine people are crammed into the same small space, superimposed over each other. Coming from different times in the past, they still interact with each other, haunting each other’s memories and premonitions, negotiating the same domestic objects.

On the ground floor level, the current inhabitants exist alone in their space, while their images are relayed live into the congested apartment above. At other times, the ground floor shows the apartment empty, with its identical furniture and objects.

A space hanging in suspended time, where individual moments can never escape but return in different guises, filling even the most everyday action with unexpected meanings.
