A statement from Artsadmin on Friday 20 October 2023
Artsadmin stands in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and all over the world who are experiencing a genocide and collective punishment within an apartheid regime.
We are seeing the systematic erasure of Palestinian voices, people, artists, and creatives within our global cultural sector, whether through denying visas, cancelling projects, or removing institutional support and funding.
Artsadmin has a history of working with artists living under occupation and colonial rule, producing projects that platform artists censored by institutions and governments around the world. In this moment, we recognise our responsibility to amplify Palestinian voices and their experience of life under Israel’s occupation.
We stand by our Muslim, Jewish, and Christian friends who are impacted, and others whose religions, identities and lived experiences are being used in violent ways to fuel division, war and oppression.
We are fearful of the growing Islamophobia and antisemitism that affects our neighbours, friends and colleagues.
We echo The Mosaic Rooms, Shubbak Festival and Arts Canteen’s call for solidarity amongst arts organisations and we encourage you to read the actions recommended by The Mosaic Rooms here.
We also call on our colleagues, partners and cultural institutions in the UK and abroad. This is the time for meaningful action, the time to use your platform, influence, resources, and expertise to raise awareness and contribute to the cause of justice and peace in Palestine. We advocate for the freedom to protest and demand our government condemn these war crimes, and act to prevent further deaths.
