Profile

straybird are led by Lucy Cash and Becky Edmunds, two independent artists whose practices have spanned dance, live art and moving image disciplines.

Since initiating straybird in 2010, Becky and Lucy have have developed a number of projects together including co-directed moving image works and innovative curations, as well as co-teaching of workshops and educational projects.

Their curations include What if…(2010), and What Matters (2012), both at Siobhan Davies Studios; and Small Matters at Dance Umbrella 2012. As co-directors they have made two films for Siobhan Davies Dance – Seven Ways South and Walker, as well as What Matters – a short documentary for Arts Council England that was shown as the opening film at the State of the Arts 2012 conference.

straybird have developed unconventional workshops and approaches to teaching including a three week workshop exploring choreography and moving image at Falmouth University (2012 and 2013); a six week workshop at Tate Modern exploring choreography in relation to other art forms, and an elective called Beyond Dance at the London College of Communications (2009-2013). Lucy and Becky are currently making Stray Gifts (to be claimed by whoever shall find) a thought-provoking mobile installation exploring movement and choreography across a collection of screen-based works by UK choreographers and artists for Dance Umbrella 2013.

straybird are Associate Artists with Roehampton Dance Network.
