Dusk Dance
Rosemary Lee
Dusk Dance, a new commission from renowned choreographer Rosemary Lee embraces the onset of winter, welcoming the darkness with both vigour and contemplation. Carried by Isaac Lee-Kronick’s haunting song, the dancers throw their energy out to the enveloping night.
The trio of young male dancers, ranging in age from 11 to 25, first met when dancing as soloists in Rosemary Lee’s Circadian at First Light Festival 2019. With the support of Dance East in Ipswich and on site in Lowestoft, Rosemary devised Dusk Dance with the dancers, who were able to dance for the first time since lock-down.
Set against the falling night time sky above Lowestoft’s beach, Dusk Dance is inspired by the folk traditions of men dancing together on the winter solstice, the seasonal and earthly cycles that shape us and the vibrancy and sensitivity of the young dancers: Richard Pye, Isaac Looker and Ralph Bate.
Head to First Light’s Facebook page to watch Dusk Dance, premiering at 16:15 GMT on Sunday 20 December.
