Homework Club: Artist Portfolio Development
Artsadmin’s Homework Club is a welcoming space for performance-based and multi-disciplinary artists, producers, and creatives to come together, learn and make progress on projects.
Sessions encourage you to make space in your week to tackle tasks you’ve been putting off, whilst getting valuable feedback and support from Artsadmin’s producers. Each Homework Club includes an informative workshop followed by open co-working time.
About this session
Please note that due to the Tube strikes, tomorrow’s Homework Club: Artist Portfolio Development workshop has been moved online.
Your portfolio is more than a collection of work – it’s your creative calling card. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to design a professional artist portfolio that opens doors to grants, residencies, festivals, and venues.
This workshop is designed for emerging artists in theatre, cabaret, drag, live art and any other live performance practice where you want to stand out in a competitive field and take control of your career path.
We’ll cover the essentials: what to include to make your work shine, how to adapt your portfolio for different opportunities, and how to ensure its accessible to a wide range of audiences and funding bodies. You’ll explore platforms for hosting your digital portfolio, as well as strategies for presenting your work in person.
You’ll have time to start building or refining your portfolio during the session, with feedback and practical tips along the way. The first hour of this session will feature an informative presentation by Kamari Romeo – Artsadmin’s Assistant Producer. Afterwards, the space will become an open co-working session that you’re welcome to drop in and out of.
What to expect:
- A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and supportive environment
- Facilitation by Artsadmin’s Producers, with more on hand to provide a sounding board for thoughts or ideas
- Time and space to connect with other artists and creatives
- An active space to work on your portfolio with your chosen materials
- A focus on making progress with your own projects
Who is it for?
Homework Clubs welcome artists and creatives at all stages of their career. However, learning content is geared towards emerging practitioners and mid-career professionals who want to build confidence in the admin side of their practice – without losing sight of their artistic goals. This session is specifically for those who want to create an artist portfolio, or update and improve existing work.
Why join?
Because admin doesn’t have to be boring or isolating. Homework Clubs are about active, collaborative learning, sharing experiences, and staying connected to your practice – with the support of a creative community.
What should I prepare to get the most out of the session?
Bring your work (images, video, audio, examples of writing) and we’ll help you frame it for maximum impact. A Laptop, tablet, or/and notebook is advised for this session.
