Matter Era is an international collaboration between the Tasmanian theatre company Terrapin and UK-based artist Tim Spooner.
This installation-performance is a work of experimental puppetry which creates a world that is alive but without people in it.
A radical ode to the physical, Matter Era stages the speculative evolution of post-human life. Material life-forms evolve and interact, perpetually combining and separating to form new beings. As four unseen performers continuously animate the objects throughout the six-hour performance, audiences can come and go and move around the space to view the work from all sides.
The life-forms eventually combine into one alien mass that fills the space and can be viewed as an installation throughout the remaining opening hours of the space.
