On Air
Graeme Miller
On Air is durational site-specific radio broadcast that compacts the elements of local radio into a simple poetic system. Graeme Miller will create a continuous commentary on the everyday life of Exhibition Road for nine days in July and August 2012.
On the rooftops above Exhibition Road, Graeme will set up a temporary radio station and invite broadcasters from the worlds of sport and the arts to commentate on passing action. They will narrate the constant flow of activity visible from their eyrie, from passers-by below them to clouds over the North Downs, to planes landing at Heathrow. The audio commentary will be made available to passers by via a low frequency FM broadcast on bespoke in-ear radios on the street itself. The observed may paradoxically become observer all at the same time.
You can pick up an in-ear radio from the stewards at Exhibiton Road.

The project is part of Exhibition Road Show, which has been commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and produced by DREAM for the first nine days of the Olympic Games to celebrate Exhibition Road’s extraordinary heritage with artists’ commissions, music, live performances, games and intervention.
