deciBel Visual Arts Award

Magret de Canard by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, oil on canvas, 2005
2004 – 2008

Offering a unique opportunity to artists, the Arts Council England 2004 and 2006 deciBel Awards for Artists were open to UK-based artists of Asian, Black African, or Black Caribbean descent. In 2006 the prize fund for artists was the largest of any award in the UK.

The awards recognised critically strong practices by contemporary visual artists of culturally diverse backgrounds, given at a timely point in the artist’s careers, providing a platform for ‘no-strings-attached’ time to research and develop new areas of artistic work.
